· SUMMER SUDS IN SAVANNAH HOMEBREW COMPETION—SEPT 3rd
In conjunction with the Savannah Craft Brew Fest taking place over Labor Day weekend, the SBL will be hosting a homebrew competition. The competition will be a summer “session-style” with beers of OG 1.060 or lower allowed (leave the big boys at home). The Savannah Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Savannah Morning News are our sponsors. Please click here for more information.
The 2009/10 BJCP Class has begun. Come @ 6 pm on regular meeting night for the first introductory class. Classes will occur at 6-7:30 pm on regular meeting night and from 7-10 pm on the third Wednesday of the month in Bluffton at Corks. Test set for July 24. The exam is presently full (limited to 20 examinees), but have a waiting list going. Drop a note on the forum if interested.
AFTER-EXAM PARTY– JULY 24 @ 5:30!!!! The examinees will get together at Vince X’s on the Tall Deck after the exam, beginning at 5:30 or so for a well-deserved refreshment. Everyone should come out and congratulate them for taking on the hardest test in beerdom, and to of course share in some fine homebrew. Bring a side dish and some brews to share. Should be a big blast. Mead Club-only will also take place.
We’ll hold our COC at the stammtisch prior to the national competition, as follows:
2009/10 Schedule:
July ‘10 Mead
September ‘10 Sour/Wild Ales
November ‘10 Strong Ales
January ‘11 English Pale Ales
Mar ‘11 Bocks
April ‘11 Wood Aged Beers
Entries will be collected at that month’s stammtisch. Club will send the winner onto the AHA Regional (we’ll drink the rest!)

While tall and strong and determined, he was a gentle, soft-spoken man. His wishes were for any remembrance be made to the Savannah Hospice. You will be missed. We raise a glass to you, Jim!

Savannah Brewers League
Homebrew Club
Welcome
The Savannah Brewers League is an informal group of fellow homebrewers with a passion for making beer, cider, mead and wine. Founded in 1993, the club serves as a haven for homebrewers throughout the Low Country and Coastal Empire in and around Savannah, Georgia. The purpose of the club is to share ideas, recipes, techniques, and stories, all in pursuit of making excellent beer.
We meet the first Wednesday of each month beginning at 7:30 p.m. downstairs at Moon River Brewing Company at 21 West Bay Street in historic downtown Savannah.
All levels of Zymurgists are welcome — from beginners to advanced all-grain experts. We are an AHA-registered homebrew club. Come join us for a session!

If you go to Atlanta, the first question people ask you is, 'What's your business?' In Macon, they ask, 'Where do you go to church?' In Augusta, they ask your grandmother's maiden name. But in SAVANNAH, the first question people ask you is, 'WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DRINK?"...

You know you're a homebrewer if... |
. . . you don't think that 10 gallons of beer is a lot. |
. . . you've ever used a mop on a ceiling. |
. . . you see the acronym R.D.W.H.A.H.B. and know what it means. |
. . . it started out as a hobby then ended up as a habit. |
. . . you have more varieties of beer on tap than your local bar does. |
. . . you hate to wash the family dishes, but think nothing about standing over a sink for hours cleaning empty bottles. |
. . . you buy beer according to ease of label removal or the type of bottle it comes in. |
. . . you can name at least 10 different varieties of hops, but can't name 10 congressmen. |
. . . you refuse to pay $8.00 for a beer in a restaurant because you can make 5 gallons for that much. |
. . . the only time you clean your kitchen is just before brewing a new batch. |
